Walking alongside children, families and communities
Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much. – Helen Keller
Training
We offer training designed to strengthen safer practice across child, family, youth, and community services. Our training supports organisations, teams, and practitioners to build confidence, capability, and culturally safe responses in the areas that matter most – from safeguarding and child protection to trauma-informed care, professional boundaries, and reflective practice.
We bring a strong focus on cultural safety, relationship-based practice, and real-world application. Our training is designed to be relevant for frontline workers, team leaders, carers, supervisors, schools, community organisations and service providers working with children, young people, families, and communities across Queensland.
Delivery formats
We can tailor training in a range of formats to suit your team, service model and timeframes. Options can be delivered as single workshops, multi-session programs, online modules, facilitated team learning, webinar series, toolkits and downloadable practice resources.
Training topics
Below are some of our most popular training topics, requested regularly by organisations working with children, young people, families and communities.
If you are looking for something more specific, we can design a custom training program that aligns with your service model, workforce needs and organisational priorities, including adapting content for different roles, regions and cultural contexts. We can also integrate your policies, supervision structures and practice frameworks, making learning directly relevant and easier to embed in day-to-day work.
Cultural Awareness
Builds understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, strengths and lived realities, and what it means to work in ways that are culturally safe rather than just culturally aware. Focuses on power, privilege, cultural load and how organisations can create environments where First Nations children, families, staff and communities feel respected, heard and safe.
Covers key types and indicators of child abuse and neglect, including patterns that are often overlooked in busy services. Supports participants to respond calmly and safely to concerns, record information clearly and take action that prioritises the child’s safety, dignity and voice.
Provides a clear overview of the Queensland child protection system, including key legislation, agencies, roles and pathways. Helps participants understand where their service sits in the broader system, how decisions are made, and how to collaborate effectively to support safety and permanency.
Introduces the core principles of trauma-informed care and their application in everyday work with children, young people and families. Explore how trauma affects behaviour, relationships and engagement, and offers practical strategies to create predictable, empowering, culturally safe environments.
Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children, Families and Communities
Focuses on culturally grounded approaches to engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families and communities. Emphasises self-determination, connection to Country, kinship systems, Sorry Business, and how to uphold cultural authority while meeting safety and wellbeing responsibilities.
Responding to Disclosures of Abuse and Sexual Harm
Guides participants in how to respond when a child, young person or adult discloses abuse or sexual harm. Covers what to say and not say, how to manage your own responses, how to document and share information, and how to keep the person safe and supported through next steps.
Professional Boundaries and Safe, Ethical Practice
Explores the purpose of professional boundaries, common grey areas and “sliding” boundaries in child, youth and family work. Provides tools for identifying risks, having difficult conversations, and maintaining safe, transparent relationships with children, young people, families and colleagues.
Helps workers understand vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout, and how these can show up in thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Supports individuals and organisations to build sustainable self-care, supervision, team practices and organisational responses that protect workforce wellbeing.
Reflective Practice, Supervision and Practice Improvement
Strengthens ability to use reflective practice and supervision to make sense of complex work and improve decision-making. Covers structures for supervision conversations, giving and receiving feedback, and linking reflection to practice change, policy and quality improvement.
Explains how early adversity and developmental trauma can affect brain development, regulation, learning and relationships. Offers practical strategies for responding to behavioural presentations as communication, and for supporting regulation, routines and connection and everyday settings.
Working with Families Experiencing Domestic and Family Violence
Explores the dynamics and impacts of domestic and family violence, including coercive control and its effects on children. Offers guidance on safe enquiry, risk assessment, safety planning, partnering with the non-offending parent, and working with men who use violence in a way that centres victim-survivor safety.
Our training is practical, engaging and grounded in the realities of frontline work. Sessions can include case examples, reflective discussion, scenario-based learning, policy and practice application, and tools that teams can use immediately in their day-to-day roles.
We can also work with organisations to co-design a training package aligned to their workforce, community context, and service model. This might include a mix of induction modules, workshop delivery, leadership coaching, supervision resources and ongoing practice tools to help embed learning beyond a one-off session.
